FCC Wants 120 MHz Back From TV

The FCC's National Broadband Plan calls for the agency to reallocate more than a third of the broadcast TV spectrum — 120 MHz of 300 MHz — for wireless broadband access within the next five years through a combination of "repacking" the band and "voluntary" channel sharing among stations.

NBC's Celebrity Apprentice returned to give the network a victory in its timeslot, though it was down from the previous year's premiere, on a night when yet another new Fox comedy fizzled. Apprentice averaged a 3.2 adults 18-49 rating from 9 to 11 p.m., down 16% from a 3.8 last year.

FCC Releases Broadband Plan Summary

Spectrum Fees Could Push Band Clearing

The FCC will propose levying spectrum fees on broadcasters and government users alike as a little incentive to clear off some of their spectrum. According to a copy of the March 12 Hill briefing of the national broadband plan, under the summary of recommendations are two to "expand incentives and mechanisms available to reallocate or repurpose spectrum."
