TVU Networks has released the latest version of TVU Grid, its IP-based video switching, routing and distribution ENG tool, which adds several key features that gives more control to operators in the field and back in the studio, in addition to new multiplatform capabilities.
TVU Grid, which is deployed at several station groups across the country, including Gray Television and LIN Media, is a point-to-multipoint live video distribution solution that lets broadcast groups switch to live feeds at the click of a mouse. Because the video is IP-based in TVU Grid, it can be accessed from anywhere with a broadband connection.
The idea is that a station group, especially one with stations scattered in a large region of the country, could cover more regional news that impacts local areas by setting up the entire group on TVU Grid.
TVU Grid 2.0 lets engineers in the studio control multiple TVUPack bonded cellular transmitters in the field straight from the TVU Grid interface.
The update, which includes an enhanced web interface that’s designed for use on tablets, also delivers a return video feed back to a monitor in the field using TVUPacks HotSpot, allowing field crews to watch the studio feed while on location. This could let a reporter to be even more engaged with the studio during live shots.
TVU Grid 1.0 could encode video streams for playout on a station’s main channel. With the update, it can stream to multiple formats and directly push them to a content delivery network or for direct to web content distribution.
“As TVU Grid is deployed in a station, the solution becomes an integral part of their operations workflow,” Paul Shen, TVU Networks CEO said in a statement.
TVU Grid 2.0 will be on display at this year’s IBC Show in Amsterdam (booth 2.B28).
