Tyler Perry is extending his partnership with Paramount. The prolific creator has signed a big new agreement with the company’s BET Media. Under the pact, he will deliver hundreds of new episodes to BET and BET+ spanning existing and new series.

Wall Street titan Mario Gabelli is slamming a possible merger between Paramount and Skydance Media — and says he’d rather see Paramount exit deal talks altogether. ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox, PBS, NBC, NPR and The Associated Press are among those that signed on to the letter urging presumptive presidential nominees Joe Biden and Donald Trump to agree to debates this year.

McManus, who turned 69 in February, started to consider retirement two years ago. With CBS carrying the Super Bowl this year along with the NCAA Tournament and the Masters, McManus and CBS President-CEO George Cheeks agreed the timing was right. David Berson, president of CBS Sports for over 10 years, is McManus’ hand-picked successor.

Krishan Bhatia, formerly a senior ad sales executive at NBCUniversal, has been hired as vice president of global video advertising at Amazon. Bhatia will oversee Amazon’s TV advertising business including live sports, Amazon Freevee, Twitch, Prime Video Ads and third-party publishers. He will report to Alan Moss, Amazon’s global ad sales VP.

Netflix has landed Rather, the documentary about veteran journalist Dan Rather‘s landmark career in news. The film, which premieres April 24 on the streamer, uses the story of of Rather’s life on television to also explore the evolution of broadcast journalism, the troubles a free press now faces, along with the slide of American society from hard-fought advances in social justice and democratic freedoms.

MacNeil first gained prominence for his coverage of the Senate Watergate hearings for the Public Broadcasting Service and began his half-hour Robert MacNeil Report on PBS in 1975 with his friend Lehrer as Washington correspondent. The broadcast became the MacNeil-Lehrer Report and then, in 1983, was expanded to an hour and renamed the MacNeil-Lehrer NewsHour. The nation’s first one-hour evening news broadcast, it was the recipient of multiple Emmy and Peabody awards. He was 93.

Catherine Herridge — the acclaimed CBS News investigative journalist known for her reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop scandal — accused the network of “journalistic rape” for seizing her files after she was fired. Breaking her silence during a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Thursday for the first time since her controversial dismissal in February, Herridge called the move by her former bosses an assault on journalism.

Mary Connelly will be departing as executive producer and co-showrunner of The Jennifer Hudson Show at the end of daytime syndicated talk show’s current second season. The daytime veteran is leaving The Jennifer Hudson Show‘s producer Warner Bros. Unscripted Television/Telepictures, her studio home of more than two decades, to pursue new projects. She made the announcement to the show’s staff and crew Thursday.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has set two new unscripted series at Netflix via her and Prince Harry’s Archewell Productions banner, which is under an overall deal at the streamer. Though titles and release dates are yet to be announced, both projects are currently in early production.
