Miranda to offer range of HDV interfaces at NAB2006

Miranda Technologies will be showing multiple new HDV interfaces in its HDV Zone at NAB2006 (booth SU1341), including the HD-Bridge DEC+ HDV to HD/SD converter, the ASI-Bridge CAM HDV to ASI interface, the ADC-800 CAM A to D converter, and the AMX-800 CAM embedder. These compact converters represent the widest range of HDV interfaces, and they are highly adapted for multiple applications.

The HD-Bridge DEC+ is an HDV (MPEG-2) decoder interface with multiple output formats for news gathering, recording, monitoring and on-air playout. HD-Bridge DEC+ features two HDV IEEE-1394 ports (iLink, FireWire), an ASI input and a genlock reference input. Dual digital video outputs provide either HD-SDI or SDI with embedded audio and time code. One output is a clean feed, and the other features time code burn-in and aspect ratio markers.

The HD-Bridge DEC+ also provides composite, SD/HD component video, AES and analog audio, and LTC outputs. A RS-422 port is available for VTR control and a built-in crossconverter allows 1080i/720p HD crossconversion. The interface can also perform 720p24 HDV to 1080PsF24 HD-SDI conversion for high-end 24p production, and there is also a 1080i/720p HD to SD downconverter. A lower cost version, called HD-Bridge DEC, is identical except that it does not include the ASI and genlock inputs.

The ASI-Bridge CAM is a camera-mounted HDV to ASI converter, designed for HDV news gathering and for direct MPEG-2 recording on a server for cost-effective preparation of dailies. The use of ASI cabling from the camera means the dailies’ recording device can be located farther away from the camera. The ASI-Bridge CAM accepts HDV via an IEEE-1394 connection and converts it to standard MPEG-2/ASI format. This compact interface mounts discretely between an HDV camcorder and a tripod and accepts power from the camera battery or from a dedicated in-line power supply. The ASI-Bridge CAM can also be combined with the HD-Bridge DEC+ to create a highly effective long-range HDV news gathering system, which overcomes the short-range limits of FireWire® cable and allows more flexibility in the field.

Miranda’s ADC-800 CAM is a compact, camera mounted A to D interface for live HD digital monitoring and recording from an HDV camcorder. This is achieved by converting the EE uncompressed component analog output to HD-SDI, with embedded left/right audio and time code. This path overcomes the processing delay inherent with the MPEG-2 Long GOP structure, which makes it inappropriate to use the HDV stream for live monitoring. This process also avoids having to use many cables for recording. The ADC-800 CAM provides a separate on-screen display output with markers, time code burn-in, and VU meters.

The compact, camera mounted AMX-800 CAM interface is an HD/SD 4 analog audio and time code embedder, designed especially for the Canon XL H1 HDV camcorder. The interface can also be used as a stand-alone SD/HD embedder.
