New Weather And Morning News Promos

Here are three new (about a month old) news promos from Charlotte, Memphis and Pittsburgh.

Having written and produced many morning news and weather promos, it’s interesting to discover how the creative is different at each station.

Here’s a morning news spot from WSOC, Cox’s ABC affiliate in Charlotte, N.C.

It’s about the morning routine, the viewers and the talent. One anchor mentions that she’s from Charlotte.

I cringe when the anchor claims that this morning news has the most traffic and weather updates every morning.

Did they actually count how many WSOC did vs. their competition? And they have reporters live as the story unfolds.

Here’s another morning news promo from WPXI, Cox’s NBC in Pittsburgh.

This spot opens by saying WPXI’s morning team takes a different approach to preparing you for the day.

This spot uses still photos of the talent with some slight movement courtesy of After Effects, which is different.

The anchors and reporters take the time to bring you “accurate facts.”

I like that they provide weather and traffic every 10 minutes.

That alone might make a persuasive reason and give me a reason to watch in the morning.

This weather promo from WHBQ, Cox’s Fx affiliate in Memphis, starts off with the station’s chief meteorologist, Joey Sulipek, mentioning that he grew up ‘here’.

And that’s why his forecasts focus on how the weather forecast affects your plans.

It’s interesting that at one point in the promo, he holds up a mobile phone and says his forecasts go deeper than this alone can give you.

I think the mobile phone is here to stay.
