NBC Local Media Taps Scholl For Top Post
Greg Scholl, former CEO of The Orchard Enterprises, a global distributor of digital music and other forms of digital entertainment, is joining NBC Local Media as president, local media platforms, NBCU announced this morning.
Scholl, who is set to start Nov. 2, will report directly to John Wallace, president of NBC Local Media. He resigned from The Orchard last month, saying that he had accepted another job.
"I'm pleased that we were able to recruit an executive of Greg's caliber to help continue our momentum as we rethink our approach to local media in a digital environment," said Wallace.
"Greg has demonstrated his ability to create a global digital business around a traditional media asset, developing new distribution platforms and business models.
"His creativity and insight will be invaluable as we continue our mission to connect local consumers with our content on the media platform of their choice."
NBC Local Media also announced two promotions.
Brian Buchwald, senior VP of local integrated media was upped to executive VP with oversight of the NBC Everywhere out-of-home business added to his responsibilities.
Mark French, who previously served as senior VP and general manager of NBC Everywhere, will take on a new role as senior VP of Local Enterprise Solutions, a newly formed unit aimed at using Local Media's platforms, assets and audiences to drive value across other NBC Universal businesses.
Buchwald and French will report to Scholl as will Morgan Hertzan, senior VP and general manager of LX.TV.
"Brian, Mark and Morgan are key leaders for our team, helping to grow their respective businesses and further expand our local offerings," Wallace said.
"Brian has done an outstanding job repositioning our websites and evolving our entire digital business and Mark is the main reason our Out of Home division exists today.
"Morgan is a stand-out creative executive who together with the LX team, has built multiple new local programming franchises of Open House, First Look and LX New York — a remarkable achievement in a relatively short span of time."
As CEO of The Orchard Enterprises, Scholl transformed a physical distributor of unsigned bands into a global digital distributor and marketer, encompassing music, video and brands.
Scholl joined The Orchard in 2003. Previously, Scholl was a partner at McKinsey & Company in its media and entertainment practice.
Before that, Scholl ran Carlin Ventures LLC, the private equity fund of Edwin Cohen, who founded General Atlantic Partners, a leading global growth equity firm.
Scholl began his media career in the media and entertainment practice at Booz Allen & Hamilton and was a principal at the firm when he left to join Carlin.
