Twentieth Pulls The Plug On 'Ricki Lake'
In its first turn in syndication, Ricki Lake's talk show aired for 11 seasons, from 1993-93 through 2003-04.
In its second turn, it lasted only one.
Distributor Twentieth Television said today that The Ricki Lake Show, which debuted last fall, would not be renewed for a second season, but that original episodes would be produced through the end of this season.
The show never mustered the kind of ratings that would merit a second season. For the week ending Jan. 20, the show managed a household rating of just 0.7, which placed it far down the list of syndicated talk shows.
"While we are proud of the topics the program tackled including childhood obesity, life-after the military, divorce and addiction, we were simply not able to break through the crowded talk show marketplace," said Stephen Brown, EVP programming and development, Twentieth.
“We would like to thank Ricki Lake as well as executive producer Gail Steinberg and the entire staff for their work this season."
