WABG Weather Goes All Baron
Commonwealth Broadcasting Group's ABC affiliate, WABG Greenwood, Miss. (DMA 187), has switched to an all-Baron Services weather solution. The station is now broadcasting with Baron's VIPIR (Volumetric Imaging and Processing of Integrated Radar) and StormWarn weather systems.
VIPIR, Baron's 3D display system, provides patented storm tracking with hyper-local MicroTrac functionality and renderless graphics and lets WABG's meteorologists show their viewers neighborhood-level weather in precise detail. Baron's patented SCIT (Storm Cell Identification and Tracking) helps them identify potentially damaging storms five minutes faster than other storm tracking systems, according to Baron.
Baron's StormWarn combines radar display with instant alert crawls, notifying WABG's viewers of National Weather Service watches, warnings or advisories. It also provides instant access to severe weather notifications, as well as Amber Alerts and breaking news.
WABG broadcasts to 26 counties in three states. "We are thrilled to bring this vital storm-tracking technology to our viewers," said Sherry Nelson, WABG GM. "The severe weather outbreaks across Mississippi in recent weeks underscore the importance of bringing our viewers storm tracking tools that they can trust. VIPIR enables our meteorologists to provide our viewers with the most advanced lead times possible so that they can protect themselves and their families."
