BIM Provides Tech for NBC Web Sites
Broadcast Interactive Media is supplying the Web platform technology behind the new Web sites that NBC Local Media is rolling out in each of its TV markets, the Web solutions company said today.
With BIM's technology, "NBC is able to get the best of both worlds: Web 2.0 and open-source capabilities without sacrificing time to market or the cost savings that go with the ability to make site changes internally," said BIM CEO Timur Yarnell is a prepared statement.
Teamed with Clickability, Inc., BIM provides content management systems to more than 150 TV and radio stations in the United States.
NBC Local announced in the October that it was relaunching and renaming its Web sites in nine TV markets, starting with Chicago. As it does so, it is ending its use of the Internet Broadcasting platform in all the markets. [Correction: The original posting said that NBC was ending its use of the WorldNow platform.]
In addition to Chicago, the markets are New York, Los Angeles, Dallas-Ft. Worth, San Francisco, Philadelphia, Washington, Hartford and San Diego.
Brian Buchwald, SVP of NBC Local Integrated Media, explains the move as "part of NBC's continued commitment to innovation and excellence.
"With Broadcast Interactive and Clickability as our technology partners, we were able to bring the solution essentially in-house while still using an external content-management system," Buchwald said.
"NBC developers can now integrate solutions at the station and corporate level quickly, easily and with the most cost-effective process," he said. "In true partnership fashion, NBC is able to draw on Broadcast Interactive's considerable domain expertise, while internally prioritizing the deployment of custom solutions."
